Devil’s Slide – Pacifica, CA
Carved out of the steep cliff sides, Route 1 hugs the coastline for much of the distance between Pacifica and Montara, CA. In one part, the road crosses the Devil's Slide region, a steep, unstable geological formation. This section of road has a long history of closure due to rockslides and land slippage.

The project calls for construction of two tunnels beneath San Pedro Mountain, each 30-feet wide and 4,200-feet long. At the northern end, a 1,000-feet bridge will span the valley at Shamrock Ranch. A re-alignment of Route 1 at the southern end will provide safe transition into and out of the tunnel. Approximately one-quarter mile south of the tunnel is the site of an Operations and Maintenance facility. An earthen embankment and vegetation-covered roof will help the facility blend with natural surroundings.

ProTech GCS, Inc. has been contracted through Envirosurvey Inc. to build two 650 GPM Treatment systems. One System has been set up to handle sediment removal and filtration for Stormwater run off. The other system has been set up to handle non-stormwater from the tunnel drilling. In addition to sediment removal and filtration the non-stormwater system is also outfitted for hydrocarbon removal. This project will be expected to be completed in 2011.

Bay Bridge – Oakland,CA
As joint venture partner, Kiewit, FCI, and Mason constructed two precast segmental bridges for the new San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge East Span. This portion, known as the Skyway, spans west from Oakland and will tie into the yet-to-be-constructed signature span.

ProTech GCS, Inc. was contract through FCI to install a 500 GPM Batch Treatment system. ProTech set up a batch treatment for pilings. We used a system of cofferdams, flocculation, and filtration for the removal of sediment in the pilings.

As both a licensed General Contractor and a wildlife Biologist/Ecologist, I understand what it takes to meet discharge permit requirements while maintaining construction project schedules. Although we have tried other systems in the past, we now use ProTech exclusively. ProTech always incorporates Best Available Technology to meet the California Regional Water Quality Control Board's requirements, and at substantial savings compared to other systems.
